The North Acropolis in Tikal is a fascinating architectural site in the Maya world. Situated across from the Grand Plaza, it showcases layers of construction that date back to around 400 BC. This area was used as a burial ground for Tikal’s rulers, with many stelae and altars that offer a glimpse into the rituals and beliefs of the Maya civilization.
Visitors usually fly into Flores Airport and then take a shuttle or public bus to Tikal National Park. It’s a good idea to join a guided tour from Flores, as these often include transportation and a knowledgeable guide.
Foreign visitors need to buy a park entry ticket, which costs Q150. If you’re interested in sunrise or sunset tours, you’ll need an additional ticket for Q100 each, and these tours must be guided. Tickets can be purchased online or at the park entrance.
