Situated atop the southern edge of Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga, Tennessee, the Seven States Flag Court or simply Seven States is a scenic overlook that promises to leave visitors speechless. It offers a panoramic sweep of the unspoiled beauty of Tennessee’s landscape allegedly spanning across seven states on clear days – Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama.

History

Lookout Mountain, home to the Seven States lookout, is steeped in history. As part of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, it’s significant for its role in the Civil War during the Battle of Lookout Mountain. Later, Garnet Carter, founder of Rock City Gardens, created the Seven States viewpoint as a gimmick to attract more tourists, and it worked, continuing to delight visitors until today.
