History
Lookout Mountain, home to the Seven States lookout, is steeped in history. As part of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, it’s significant for its role in the Civil War during the Battle of Lookout Mountain. Later, Garnet Carter, founder of Rock City Gardens, created the Seven States viewpoint as a gimmick to attract more tourists, and it worked, continuing to delight visitors until today.

Travelers can reach Seven States lookout through Rock City, located just 6 miles from downtown Chattanooga. It’s a few hours’ drive from the major cities of Nashville, Knoxville, Birmingham, and Atlanta.
