The Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Chiquinquirá y Cristo de Aranza, commonly known as La Chinita, is a beautiful gothic structure located in the Venezuelan city of Maracaibo. As an important place of worship, it attracts thousands of pilgrims every year.

History of Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Chiquinquirá y Cristo de Aranza

This historic Basilica, completed in 1936, is intimately linked to the veneration of La Chinita — a popular name for the Virgin Mary of the Holy Rosary of Chiquinquirá, the patron saint of the Zulia region. Legend has it that a humble woman found a piece of wood in Maracaibo Lake in 1749, which came alive with the image of the Virgin when water was poured on it.

How to Get There

Located in downtown Maracaibo, the Basilica can be reached by bus, taxi, or private car from anywhere in the city. Maracaibo also has an international airport making it accessible for international visitors.

Ticket Information
