History

The Cueva del Guácharo is a limestone cave located in the Caripe Mountains of Monagas State in Venezuela. It was discovered in 1799 by Alexander von Humboldt during his expedition to South America. The cave is famous for its population of oilbirds, which are nocturnal birds that navigate using echolocation.

How to Get There

The cave is located near the town of Caripe, which is about a five-hour drive from Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. Visitors can reach Caripe by bus or car and then take a short hike to the entrance of the cave.
