In 1957, Huldah (Cheek) Sharp, the daughter of Leslie and Mabel Cheek, generously offered the estate to be used as a public garden and fine arts center for Nashville. By 1960, Cheekwood Gardens opened its doors to the public, showcasing its beautiful gardens and historic mansion.
