Experience the beauty of Rotorua’s Redwood Forest with the Redwoods Treewalk, a 700-meter-long eco-tourism attraction. This unique adventure features 28 suspension bridges and 27 towering Redwood trees, offering breathtaking views of the forest canopy and floor. Designed with sustainability in mind, the walkway is constructed to preserve the natural environment and protect the majestic Redwoods.
The Redwood Forest, where the Treewalk is located, was initially planted in the early 1900s. Of the 170 species originally planted, only a few remain, including the 6-hectare stand of Californian Redwoods. Opened to the public in the 1970s, the forest has become a beloved recreational area, drawing over 600,000 visitors annually. The Redwoods Treewalk opened in late 2015, gaining international acclaim with the addition of the Nightlights walk in 2016 and a 20-meter-high viewing platform in 2017.
Visitors can reach the Redwoods Treewalk by flying into Rotorua Airport (ROT) and taking a taxi or shuttle to the forest. Alternatively, renting a car and driving from Rotorua city center takes about 10-15 minutes.
The Redwoods Treewalk is an essential stop in Rotorua, offering a memorable journey through nature’s splendor.
