Lake Salda, often dubbed “Turkey’s Maldives,” is a breathtaking natural gem situated in the southwestern region of Turkey, within Burdur Province. Its striking blue waters and white sandy beaches have earned it comparisons to the Maldives. Additionally, the lake is sometimes called “”Mars on Earth”” due to its unique geological characteristics that resemble Martian landscapes.
Lake Salda has long been a point of interest for its distinctive geobiochemical processes, which have resulted in the formation of stromatolites. These ancient fossils, believed to have first appeared on Earth around 3.5 billion years ago, are vital for scientific research, including studies related to the search for extraterrestrial life on Mars.
To reach Lake Salda, you can fly into Antalya Airport, the nearest major airport, and then take a bus or rent a car for the approximately three-hour drive to the lake. Alternatively, you can travel from Burdur city, located about 50 kilometers away.
Generally, no tickets are required to visit Lake Salda as it is a public area, but there may be fees for specific activities or guided tours.
