Canyon Overlook Trail is one of Zion National Park’s most rewarding short hikes, offering stunning panoramic views of Pine Creek Canyon and the main canyon below. At just 1 mile round-trip, it delivers big scenery for relatively little effort, making it a favorite for families, casual hikers, and photographers looking for dramatic vistas without committing to a strenuous trek.
The trail begins with stone steps leading into a series of ledges, rocky outcroppings, and shaded alcoves. Guardrails are in place in certain areas, but hikers should be cautious around exposed sections. Along the way, you’ll see desert wildflowers in season, juniper trees, and glimpses into Pine Creek Canyon. The overlook itself is a broad rock platform offering sweeping views into Zion Canyon—an ideal spot for photos or simply soaking in the scenery.
The trail has a sense of adventure while remaining accessible to most visitors. Because it’s relatively short, it can get busy during midday, but early mornings and late afternoons provide quieter, more magical experiences. The overlook itself offers a tranquil, awe-inspiring pause with one of Zion’s most iconic panoramas.
Access is included with the standard Zion National Park entrance fee ($35 per vehicle, valid for 7 days). No separate ticket is required for the trail.
Arrive early to secure parking and catch the soft light of sunrise—it transforms the red rock cliffs into a glowing spectacle and gives you the overlook mostly to yourself.
