Comfort Kitchen is a dynamic restaurant located in Upham’s Corner, Dorchester, that opened in early 2023. Founded by immigrant chefs Biplaw Rai (Nepal) and Kwasi Kwaa (Ghana), the kitchen creates “global comfort food” that draws from the African diaspora, spice routes, and flavors of Asia and the Americas. The space is housed in the restored 1912 Comfort Station building, bringing history and community together with bold and thoughtful cuisine.
Try the Jerk Roasted Duck or Yassa Chicken for a deep flavor punch. The spiced roasted eggplant is an excellent vegetarian main. For snacks, the okra or jerk jackfruit sliders are great starts. Dessert-wise, the mango ice-cream with peanut brittle delivers a satisfying finish. Pair with a cocktail that leans on rum or mezcal if you enjoy flavors with spice and depth.
Comfort Kitchen occupies a beautifully restored public building in Dorchester (Comfort Station) with indoor and outdoor seating. It has a warm, inclusive vibe, elevated by art, design, and a focus on storytelling through both cuisine and setting. Weekend brunches bring more casual energy; dinner feels more intentional and refined.
Most dinner entrées are in the range of $30–$45 USD. Snacks and shared small plates run about $12–$20. Sweets and desserts are around $12–$15. Cocktails and full drinks may add extra depending on selection.
While Comfort Kitchen officially opened in January 2023, its roots go back to pop-ups run by the founders since 2015. The restaurant builds on immigrant food traditions and the spice trade to tell stories through flavor. It is also located in a historic structure, the Comfort Station, which dates to 1912 and served the streetcar system.
If you’re coming for dinner, try to arrive early to snag patio seating (weather permitting). And save room—for the mango ice-cream with peanut brittle or whatever seasonal dessert they have; it’s one of their sweeter standout treats.
