Zaanse Schans, which is about 15 kilometers north of Amsterdam, is intended to be an outdoor museum where visitors may walk around a traditional Dutch village and learn about how craftsmen back in the day would have lived and worked. There are also places to try Dutch chocolate and Dutch Cheese here!

How to get there:

By Tour: My recommendation would be to take a tour because it’s hassle free and you get a lot of good information along the way. I’ve been on this tour and it was great!

By Bus: Taking bus 391 directly from Amsterdam provides an affordable and comfortable mode of transport to the Zaanse Schans Windmills. The frequency of the buses is commendable and they ensure traveler safety. Although the bus ride may be longer than a train journey, it offers the benefit of stopping right at the village entrance, whereas a train commute would take a 15-minute walk.

By Train: The Zaandijk – Zaanse Schans is the closest train station to Zaanse Schans and can be accessed via a local train from Amsterdam Central Station within an approximate duration of 17 minutes. Thereafter, you can walk to the Zaanse Schans in about 15 minutes.
