The Aare Gorge, or Aareschlucht in German, is a stunning natural wonder located near the town of Meiringen in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland. Formed over thousands of years by the erosive power of the Aare River, the gorge is approximately 1.4 kilometers long and up to 200 meters deep. The gorge has been accessible to visitors since the late 19th century, with walkways and tunnels carved into the rock to allow for safe passage and breathtaking views.
The Aare Gorge is easily accessible by both car and public transportation. If traveling by car, you can reach the gorge via the A8 motorway, taking the exit for Meiringen. There are parking facilities available near the entrance. For those using public transportation, take a train to Meiringen and then a short bus ride to the Aareschlucht West or Aareschlucht Ost stops, both of which are within walking distance of the gorge entrances.
