Artist’s Point is a spectacular overlook at the Yellowstone National Park, offering breathtaking views of the Yellowstone Grand Canyon and the Lower Falls. It’s an inspiring spot that has captivated artists and sightseers for years, hence the name. No visit to Yellowstone is complete without a stop at Artist’s Point.
Artist’s Point was mistakenly believed to be the spot where artist Thomas Moran painted his famous 1872 painting of the canyon, hence the name. However, it was later discovered that Moran painted from the north rim, not the south rim where Artist’s Point is located. Nevertheless, the name stuck, and Artist’s Point continues to inspire artists and tourists alike with its magnificent views.
Artist’s Point is located on the South Rim Drive of the Yellowstone Grand Canyon, in the southeastern section of Yellowstone National Park. It’s about a 20-minute drive from the South Entrance. There are ample parking spaces available, and it’s a short walk from the parking area to the viewpoint.
Artist’s Point is part of Yellowstone National Park, so visitors need to pay the park’s entrance fee. As of 2021, the entrance fee for a private, non-commercial vehicle is $35, and it’s valid for seven days. An annual pass for Yellowstone National Park is available for $70.
