It’s a prominent symbol of Bled’s rich history, offering visages of architectural grandeur, informative historical exhibits, and mesmerizing views over the lake and the surrounding Julian Alps.
History
Bled Castle’s history stretches back over a thousand years. First mentioned in a 1011 deed as Ueldes (Veldes), it was initially owned by the Bishops of Brixen and later passed through different noble hands. The castle complex as seen today is a result of several renovations and enhancements, most of which occurred in the 16th and 17th centuries.
How to Get There
Situated just a few kilometers from the town of Bled, the castle can be reached by a relatively short, albeit steep, uphill walk. Alternatively, visitors can take a taxi or drive their vehicle with a couple of parking lots available at the castle.
