The Rio de Janeiro Cathedral, also known as the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Sebastian, is a modernist-style cathedral located in the city center of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Construction on the cathedral began in 1964 and was completed in 1979. The unique cone-shaped design of the cathedral was inspired by the Mayan pyramids and can seat up to 20,000 people.
The Rio de Janeiro Cathedral is located in the Centro district of Rio de Janeiro, easily accessible by public transportation. Visitors can take the metro to the Carioca station or catch a bus to the nearby area. Taxis and ride-sharing services are also available for a more convenient option.
Admission to the Rio de Janeiro Cathedral is free for visitors. However, donations are encouraged to help with the maintenance and upkeep of the cathedral.
