History

Clonmacnoise, located in the heart of Ireland, is an ancient monastic site founded by St. Ciarán in the mid-6th century. It became a major center of religion, learning, craftsmanship, and trade by the 9th century. The site includes the ruins of a cathedral, seven churches, two round towers, three high crosses, and the largest collection of Early Christian grave slabs in Western Europe.

How to Get There

Clonmacnoise is situated in County Offaly, Ireland, near the River Shannon. The most convenient way to reach Clonmacnoise is by car. It is approximately a 90-minute drive from Dublin and about an hour from Galway. Public transportation options include taking a train or bus to Athlone, followed by a taxi or local bus to Clonmacnoise.

Guided tours are available for an additional fee.
