Dynjandi, often known as Fjallfoss, is the largest waterfall in the Westfjords of Iceland and is truly a sight to behold. With a cumulative height of 100 meters, it cascades down the mountain like a beautiful white veil, earning it the name Dynjandi, which translates to “Thundering.”
While not directly tied to any specific historical events, Dynjandi has long been the crown jewel of Westfjords’ pristine natural beauty, and it occupies a special place in locals’ hearts. Over the years, it has become one of Iceland’s most iconic and cherished natural wonders.
Located on Road 60, around 200km north of Reykjavík, Dynjandi is accessible by car during the summer months when the roads are usually clear of snow. There’s a small car park at the base of the waterfall, and from there, a short hike leads up to the main cascade.
There’s no admission fee to visit Dynjandi waterfall. Visitors can enjoy the site and the surrounding views free of charge, at any time.
