The Feria de Tristán Narvaja is a vibrant and traditional Sunday street market located in Montevideo, Uruguay. It is renowned for its diverse assortment of antiques, books, fresh produce, artisanal crafts, and unique items that draw both locals and tourists.
Established on October 3, 1909, the fair originally served as an agricultural market at Plaza Independencia. It later relocated to Tristán Narvaja Street in the Cordón neighborhood, expanding to offer a wide range of goods that reflect Montevideo’s cultural heritage. The market is named after Dr. Tristán Narvaja, a notable 19th-century Argentine lawyer who lived in Uruguay and contributed to its civil law.
Visitors can reach the fair by public transport or by driving to the Cordón area. The market extends from Avenida 18 de Julio to La Paz Street, covering Tristán Narvaja Street and nearby streets such as Gaboto, Paysandú, and Cerro Largo. Due to limited parking, using public transportation or arriving early is advisable. The market operates only on Sundays from approximately 7 AM to 3 PM.
Entry to the Feria de Tristán Narvaja is free, allowing visitors to leisurely explore the open-air market and browse the stalls.
This fair provides a rich cultural experience and an opportunity to engage with Montevideo’s local lifestyle and history through its lively marketplace.
