Geist Bar & Restaurant is a delightful spot in Nashville, Tennessee, that offers a sophisticated yet laid-back dining experience. Nestled in the historic Germantown area, this charming venue is housed in a beautifully restored blacksmith shop from the early 1900s, making it a unique and memorable place to visit.
Geist Bar & Restaurant has a fascinating history that dates back to 1886 when it was first opened by German immigrant John Geist Sr. The building was once Nashville’s oldest family-owned business, with three generations of the Geist family working there. Over the years, it evolved from a blacksmith shop to include lawnmower repair and ornamental ironwork. In 1980, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. After a meticulous restoration in 2015, it reopened in March 2018 as Geist, featuring a chic bar and dining room with handcrafted pieces from local artisans, as well as The Champagne Garden, a full garden and courtyard with an outdoor cooking stove.
Geist Bar & Restaurant is located at 311 Jefferson St, Nashville, TN 37208, near the intersection with 4th Street. If you don’t have a car, it’s best to use ride-sharing services due to the limited paid parking options in the area. Public transit is also an option, with nearby bus stations operated by the Regional Transportation Authority of Middle Tennessee.
