Grotta Lighthouse is a delightful spot at the far northwest corner of Reykjavik, Iceland, on the Seltjarnarnes peninsula. It’s a favorite for outdoor activities like walking and bird watching.
The lighthouse’s story began in 1897 with the original structure. The current lighthouse was built in 1947 and got electrified in 1956. It’s an important maritime beacon and a beloved landmark.
Visitors can drive from downtown Reykjavik, which takes about 10 minutes. Alternatively, bus number 11 goes to Lindargotu road, followed by a five-minute walk. Taxis are also available from Ingolfstorg Square.
