Hossa National Park, located in Finland’s Kainuu region, is celebrated for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural significance. Established in 2017 to mark Finland’s centenary of independence, it is one of the country’s newest national parks. Previously known as the Hossa Hiking Area since 1979, the park’s name is derived from the Sami word “Huossa,” which translates to “a place far away.” A highlight of the park is the ancient rock paintings found at Värikallio, dating back to approximately 1500-2500 BC.
Travelers can reach Hossa National Park by flying into Kajaani Airport, the closest major airport. From there, visitors can either take a taxi or rent a car for the roughly 100 km drive to the park. Public transportation options and shuttle services from nearby towns are also available for those who prefer not to drive.
No specific ticket is required for entry into Hossa National Park; however, some activities may have associated costs. Visitors are encouraged to explore the park’s extensive trails and enjoy the natural beauty without incurring additional fees.
