Ilha Grande is a beautiful tropical island located off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The island has a rich history dating back to the early 1500s when it was first discovered by the Portuguese. It was used as a pirate hideout, a leper colony, and later as a prison before being declared a protected area in the late 1990s.
To get to Ilha Grande, you will need to take a ferry from the mainland. Ferries depart regularly from Angra dos Reis and Mangaratiba, both of which are easily accessible from Rio de Janeiro. The ferry ride takes about an hour and offers stunning views of the surrounding coastline.
There is no entrance fee to visit Ilha Grande, but you will need to purchase a ferry ticket to get there. Ferry tickets can be purchased at the port in Angra dos Reis or Mangaratiba. Once on the island, most attractions are free to visit, although some may require a guided tour.
