Iztuzu Beach, also known as Turtle Beach, is a breathtaking natural haven situated in Dalyan, MuÄŸla, Turkey. Famous for its immaculate golden sands and clear waters, it serves as a crucial nesting ground for the endangered Loggerhead Turtles. Spanning approximately 4.5 kilometers, the beach offers stunning vistas of the Mediterranean Sea.
In the 1980s, Iztuzu Beach faced potential destruction due to development plans. However, the dedicated efforts of June Haimoff, affectionately called “”The Turtle Lady,”” led to its preservation. The Kaptan June Sea Turtle Conservation Project was established to protect the turtles and their habitat, making the beach a model for conservation initiatives.
Visitors can reach Iztuzu Beach by taking a water taxi or tour boat from Dalyan, which often includes stops at the Dalyan mud baths and the ancient city of Kaunos. Alternatively, driving or taking a minibus from central Dalyan takes about 25 minutes.
Entrance to Iztuzu Beach is free, though some tours and activities may have separate charges.
