Krka National Park has a long and storied history. The park is home to several historical sites, including the Krka Monastery, which dates back to 1345 and is one of the most important Serbian Orthodox sites in the region.

How to Get There

Krka National Park is easily accessible by car or public transportation. There are five official entrances to the park, but the most popular ones for visiting the waterfalls are Lozovac and Skradin. The Lozovac entrance offers a free parking lot and a shuttle bus service to the Ethno village near the waterfalls. The Skradin entrance requires a 20-minute boat ride to reach the waterfalls, which is covered by the entrance fee.

Attractions

1. Skradinski Buk Waterfall
– The most popular waterfall in Krka National Park, Skradinski Buk is a 17-waterfall cascade that ends in a beautiful lake. The waterfall is accessible via a 2km long hiking path and offers stunning views of the crystal-clear streams and vibrant fish swimming upstream.

2. Manojlovacki Slap Waterfall
– Located near the Burnum entrance, Manojlovacki Slap is the tallest waterfall in Krka National Park, with a total drop of around 60 meters. Its picturesque location in a canyon makes it one of the most beautiful spots in the park. However, it requires a 45km drive from the Lozovac entrance and no public transportation is available, so visitors must make their own way there.

3. Visovac Monastery
– A tiny island in the middle of the Krka River, Visovac Monastery is part of the national park and offers a serene experience. Visitors can enjoy a simple cheese and ham board at the waterfall restaurant, which is a unique experience during hot days.

4. Roški Slap Waterfall
– Another notable waterfall in Krka National Park, Roški Slap offers a beautiful cave view over the falls. Swimming is permitted here from June 1 to September 30, but it is at visitors’ own risk and depends on weather conditions and water levels.

5. Ethno Village
– Located near the Skradinski Buk waterfall, the Ethno village showcases traditional Croatian living with water mills from the 17th and 18th centuries. Visitors can explore the village after visiting the main waterfall.

Ticket Information

The entrance fee for adults is 200 kunas (approximately 27 euros) during the main season. Tickets can be purchased online or at the entrances. There are different ticket options available, including combinations with boat or bus transfers to various attractions within the park.

Tips for Visiting

1. Best Time to Visit
– The best time to visit Krka National Park is in May/June and September/October. These shoulder months offer fewer crowds and lower entrance fees. If you plan to swim, be aware that swimming is only permitted from June 1 to September 30 at designated areas.

2. Swimming
– Swimming is allowed in designated areas like Roški Slap and Stinice, but it is at visitors’ own risk. Be wary of pickpockets, especially in crowded areas.

3. Getting Around
– While it is possible to visit Krka without a car, having one is highly recommended due to the park’s size and multiple attractions. Free parking is available at most entrances, but be prepared for limited shade at the Lozovac parking lot.

4. Shuttle Buses
– Shuttle buses are available from April to October to help visitors navigate the park, especially from the Lozovac entrance to the Ethno village near Skradinski Buk. Using the shuttle bus is recommended to avoid the uphill walk back to the car park.

5. Cash Only at Waterfall Restaurant
– The waterfall restaurant at Visovac Monastery only accepts cash, so it’s essential to bring cash with you if you plan to dine there.

By following these tips and planning your visit accordingly, you can ensure a memorable and enjoyable experience at Krka National Park.
