Litlibær is a charming historic farmstead, nestled away in the stunning landscape of Iceland’s Westfjords. As a destination, it speaks volumes of Iceland’s culture, community, and history, making it a must-visit location for history buffs and nature lovers alike.

History

Litlibær was built in 1895 and was occupied until 1969. Over the years, it’s been a home to diverse families, each making their indelible mark on the property, irrevocably linking it to the rich history of Iceland. Today, it’s been lovingly restored by the National Museum of Iceland and converted into a museum that showcases its fascinating past.

How to get there

Litlibær is located approximately 12km from Ísafjörður. The easiest way to access Litlibær is by car by taking Road 61 from Ísafjörður and then onto Road 647. During summer and autumn, public buses running on the route Ísafjörður – Bolungarvík also stop at Litlibær.
