Lough Key Forest Park, located in County Roscommon, Ireland, is steeped in history dating back to the Neolithic period. The park is named after Lough Key, a lake that has been central to the region’s history. The area was once the site of a grand estate owned by the King family, and remnants of their mansion can still be seen today. The park also features historical landmarks such as the Moylurg Tower and the ruins of Rockingham House.
Lough Key Forest Park is accessible by car, bus, and train. If you’re driving, the park is located off the N4 road, approximately 40 minutes from Sligo and 2 hours from Dublin. There are also bus services that run from major cities to Boyle, the nearest town, from where you can take a taxi or a local bus to the park. The nearest train station is in Boyle, which is serviced by trains from Dublin and Sligo.
Entrance to Lough Key Forest Park is free, but some attractions within the park require tickets. The Tree Canopy Walk and Zipit Forest Adventures have separate admission fees. Tickets for the Boda Borg adventure house can be purchased online or at the park’s visitor center. It’s recommended to book in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons.
