Introduction

The Museo de las Memorias, also known as the Museum of Memories, is a poignant reminder of Paraguay’s past. Located in the capital city of Asunción, the museum is housed in what used to be a detention center during the country’s dictatorship under the rule of Alfredo Stroessner. After the fall of the dictatorship, it was decided to convert this significant space into a museum in 2007 to commemorate the victims of state terror and to serve as a testament to Paraguay’s history.
