Located in Demre, Turkey, Myra is a captivating archaeological site that offers a window into the Lycian civilization’s rich history and culture. Its strategic location along the Lycian Way makes it a favored spot for history buffs and nature enthusiasts alike.
Myra’s origins trace back to the 5th century BC, and it was one of the prominent cities of the Lycian League. The city thrived during the Roman era and later became a significant Christian center, notably with Saint Nicholas serving as its bishop. Myra’s prominence declined after its conquest by the Abbasid Caliph Harun al-Rashid in 808 AD and later by the Seljuk Turks.
