Located in the Yellowstone National Park, the Norris Geyser Basin is the park’s oldest, hottest, and most dynamic of Yellowstone’s thermal areas. It is a place where every visitor can explore the Earth’s most powerful thermal features and beautiful landscapes.
The Norris Geyser Basin was named after Philetus W. Norris, the second superintendent of Yellowstone, who provided the first detailed information about the thermal features. Given its setting atop an active volcano, the landscape constantly changes with thermal features frequently appearing and disappearing.
The Norris Geyser Basin is accessible via the Grand Loop Road, located about 12 miles from Madison Junction in Yellowstone National Park. Visitors can access the park through one of the five park entrances, and then drive to Norris via the Grand Loop Road. Public transportation within the park is limited, so personal transportation or a tour bus is recommended.
Park entry fees apply to visit the Norris Geyser Basin. Yellowstone National Park charges $35 for a private, non-commercial vehicle, $30 for a motorcycle or snowmobile, and $20 for an individual entry on foot or bicycle. The ticket provides seven-day access to Yellowstone National Park.
