Located in the quaint fishing village of Bolungarvík, the Ósvör Maritime Museum provides a glimpse into the life of Icelandic fishermen in the old times. It comprises an exact replica of the 19th-century fishing station, showcasing the tough life of those who collected the bounteous harvests of the ocean.
The museum, established in 1988, is a tribute to the rich local fishing culture and the people who braved the treacherous Atlantic conditions. Located right on Bolungarvík’s harbor, it’s a window to the past and a narrated collection of Iceland’s maritime history.
Bolungarvík is a short trip (about 15 minutes) north from Ísafjörður. From the town center, a short walk will take you to the Ósvör Maritime Museum on the seashore.
The admission fee for adults is ISK 1000, while senior citizens 67 years and older and children under 18 have free admission. Group rates are available upon request.
