History

The Panama Rainforest Discovery Center is an environmental facility founded to protect and conserve the beautiful ecosystem surrounding Pipeline Road and Soberania National Park. The center is built using 70% recycled materials from the old Canal Zone constructions, making it a sustainable and eco-friendly destination. The facility includes a visitor center, an observation tower, and various forest trails, all designed to minimize its impact on the environment.

How to Get There

To reach the Panama Rainforest Discovery Center, you have several options:

– Taxi: The most convenient way to get there is by booking a taxi. The center is located 2 kilometers from the entrance to Pipeline Rd.
– Rent a Car: Renting a car allows you to explore the area at your own pace. However, be aware that there is no bus access to the park.

Attractions

Visitor Center

The visitor center is a self-sustainable open structure built with solar panels and rainwater collectors. It features a deck, cellar, and restrooms. Here, you can sit back and enjoy the variety of hummingbirds while sipping a free cup of coffee or hot tea.

Observation Tower

The 32-meter-high observation tower is made of recycled material from the canal. It offers resting and observation platforms every 8 meters, culminating in a top deck just above the forest canopy. This is an ideal spot for spotting blue cotinga and toucans.

Forest Trails

The center offers a 1.2-kilometer circuit of two forest trails, ranging from easy to difficult levels. These trails are well-maintained and include signs and information along the way. One of the resting locations is by the edge of Calamito Lake, which has a small deck with benches great for observing water wildlife.

Hummingbird Center

The hummingbird center is a must-visit attraction. Here, you can see and photograph many different species of hummingbirds just in front of you. These noisy, tiny, and territorial birds will defend their feeders against other hummingbirds, making for an entertaining experience.

Calamito Lake

Ticket Information
