Queulat National Park, situated in the Aysen Region of Chilean Patagonia, is a stunning destination for those who love nature and adventure. This park is famous for its breathtaking landscapes, rich wildlife, and distinctive attractions.
Queulat National Park, which translates to “”Sound of Waterfalls”” in the language of the Chono people, has attracted visitors since the 18th century. The park boasts natural beauty, featuring evergreen and Andean Patagonian forests, waterfalls, fjords, and rugged rock formations, making it an essential stop for anyone looking to connect with nature.
Established in 1983, the national park is predominantly untouched by human development. The renowned Carretera Austral, a popular scenic route, traverses the park, granting access to its various attractions. The area has a rich history, dating back to the 18th century when Jesuit explorers sought the legendary City of the Caesars.
To access Queulat National Park, travel along the Carretera Austral. The best starting point for exploring the park is the fjord settlement of Puyuhuapi, located between Chaitén and Coyhaique/Puerto Aysén/Puerto Cisnes. Most attractions lie south of Puyuhuapi. You can catch daily flights from Santiago or Puerto Montt to Balmaceda Airport, then continue north on the Carretera Austral to reach the park. Airlines like Pewén and Aerocord provide daily flights from Puerto Montt to Chaitén, where you can take a bus to Puyuhuapi.
The entrance fee for foreigners is 9,000 pesos (approximately $15 USD), while Chilean citizens pay 4,500 pesos (around $7.50 USD). Adolescents aged 12–17 are charged 4,500 pesos for foreigners and 2,500 pesos for Chileans. Children under 12, as well as citizens with disabilities or seniors, can enter for free. An additional fee of 3,000 pesos is required to visit the Bosque Encantado.
Queulat National Park promises an unforgettable experience for those who explore its pristine landscapes and unique attractions. Whether you are a nature lover or an adventure seeker, this park will leave you in awe of its natural splendor.
