Pico Bonito National Park is a hidden gem in northern Honduras, offering a mix of thrilling activities and stunning natural beauty. Established in 1987, this tropical paradise is perfect for both adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers. With its incredible hiking trails, river rafting opportunities, and lush jungle canopies, Pico Bonito is a must-visit spot.
Pico Bonito National Park was created to protect its diverse ecosystems and rich biodiversity. Spanning over 217 square miles, the park’s altitude ranges from sea level to more than 2,000 meters, resulting in seven distinct ecosystems. This diversity is home to a wide array of wildlife, including over 400 bird species, jaguars, ocelots, tapirs, pumas, deer, and various reptiles, amphibians, and butterflies.
The park is conveniently located about 25 minutes from La Ceiba, a coastal town on the Caribbean side of Honduras. La Ceiba is well-connected to the islands of Utila and Roatan by ferry, making it a great base for exploring the area. From La Ceiba, you can reach the park via a 30-minute ride on a bumpy road.
Tickets can be purchased at the park’s entrance, with various packages available that include guided tours and activities. It’s a good idea to book in advance, especially during peak season, to ensure you get a spot.
Pico Bonito National Park is an unforgettable destination, offering a blend of adventure and natural beauty. Whether you’re hiking through lush rainforests or experiencing the thrill of white-water rafting, this park has something for everyone.
