Located in Greenland’s second-oldest town, Qasigiannguit Museum is a cultural and historical treasure that offers a fascinating insight into the area’s rich heritage. The museum is situated in the oldest European wooden structure in North Greenland, dating back to 1734.
The museum’s history is closely linked to the town’s colonial era. It was inaugurated in 1984 to mark the 250th anniversary of the town. Visitors can explore artifacts and exhibitions from early Inuit settlements, including the 4,500-year-old Saqqaq culture, and learn about efforts to revive the Thule culture.
Travelers usually fly into Ilulissat Airport and then take a domestic flight to Qasigiannguit. Alternatively, a boat ride from Ilulissat is available during the summer months.
