Located in Jordan’s eastern desert, Qasr Hallabat is a splendid fortress that bears witness to various periods of history. Its well-preserved mosaics, unique architectural blend of Roman and early Islamic designs, and tranquil surroundings offer visitors an evocative glimpse into the region’s past.
Built initially by the Romans as a fortress, Qasr Hallabat was later repurposed and expanded by the Umayyad Caliphate in the 8th century AD. Over time, the structure has undergone renovations, and today, it stands as a testament to its rich historical lineage and the region’s diverse cultural influences.
Qasr Hallabat is located approximately 60 km east of Amman, Jordan’s capital. It’s accessible by the Desert Highway, and visitors generally arrive by car or taxi. There isn’t any public transportation that goes directly to the castle.
There’s no admission ticket required to access Qasr Hallabat. Visitors are free to explore the site during daylight hours.
