Qinngua Valley stands out as a remarkable and stunning location in southern Greenland, renowned for being the country’s sole natural forest. This valley benefits from a micro-sub-arctic climate, with towering mountains providing shelter from harsh winds, allowing a diverse array of plant life to flourish.
The valley holds historical importance due to its proximity to ancient Norse settlements. Archaeological evidence indicates that a significant Norse farm, possibly BrattahlÃð, the estate of Erik the Red, once existed in the area. However, this theory remains debated. Unlike other regions in Greenland where forests were cleared by early settlers, the natural forest in Qinngua Valley has remained untouched.
Travelers typically reach Qinngua Valley by flying into Narsarsuaq Airport, the nearest major airport. From there, you can either take a boat or embark on a hike to the valley. The closest settlement is Tasiusaq, located approximately 9.3 miles away.
No specific ticket is required to visit Qinngua Valley. However, travelers may need to arrange guided tours or transportation services to access the area.
