This 40,000-hectare reserve established in 1986 is a UNESCO Biosphere reserve. It was born out of a regional conservation effort to protect the Atlantic Forest, one of the world’s most endangered tropical forests. Over the decades, it has made significant contributions to research, conservation, and sustainable development.
The reserve is in eastern Paraguay, about 350 kilometers from Asuncion. You can take a local bus headed for Ciudad del Este, and then hire a taxi or mini-bus to reach the reserve. Alternatively, you can hire a private car for a more convenient journey.
