Located on the campus of Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri, stands a modern-day Stonehenge, an intriguing rendition of the original prehistoric monument in England. The massive structure serves as an illustrative example of the blending of ancient history and modern technology.
Constructed between 1984 and 1986, this Stonehenge replica was designed and built under the direction of the late Dr. Joe Senne, a mechanical engineering professor. Its stones were cut with water-jet technology, and it is aligned to mark the summer and winter solstices precisely.
The Stonehenge replica is located on the north side of Missouri S&T’s campus, along Highway 63 in Rolla. Rolla is roughly midway between St. Louis and Springfield, Missouri, along Interstate 44.
There is no admission fee to visit the Stonehenge replica. Visitors are welcome to explore the site during all times.
