The Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV), situated in Caracas, is not only Venezuela’s oldest university but also one of the most important higher education institutions in Latin America. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s appreciated for its art, architecture, and educational contributions.
Founded in 1721 under the name “Real y Pontificia Universidad de Caracas,” this prestigious institution has fostered education, scientific research, cultural promotion, and social service in its three century existence. The campus itself, Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas, designed by architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000 due to its architectural and cultural significance.
The UCV is primarily reachable via the Caracas Metro. The nearest Metro station is “Ciudad Universitaria.” Taxis and personal vehicle commutes are also common means to reach the University.
While the university campus is free to explore, guided tours can be arranged on request, for which a fee may apply. Some attractions within UCV may also require an entry fee.
