The Che Guevara Mausoleum, located in Santa Clara, Cuba, is a prominent historical site honoring the revolutionary figure Ernesto “Che” Guevara. This memorial complex is the final resting place for Che Guevara and 29 of his comrades who died in Bolivia in 1967. Situated in Plaza Che Guevara, the site features a large bronze statue of Guevara, a museum chronicling his life, and an eternal flame ignited by Fidel Castro.
The mausoleum’s history is closely linked to the Cuban Revolution. Santa Clara was chosen due to its strategic role in the Battle of Santa Clara in December 1958, where Che Guevara was instrumental. Construction of the mausoleum began in 1982 and concluded in 1988, with a grand opening attended by Raúl Castro. The complex was designed by a team of architects and sculptors, with significant volunteer contributions from local residents.
Visitors can reach the Che Guevara Mausoleum by bus or taxi from major Cuban cities such as Havana. Once in Santa Clara, the mausoleum is conveniently accessible on foot from the city center.
Admission to the Che Guevara Mausoleum is free, though donations are welcome. The mausoleum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, with extended hours on weekdays.
