Glencoe is a famous glen located in the Scottish Highlands. It is known for its stunning natural beauty and rich history. The glen was formed through volcanic activity millions of years ago, and has since been shaped by glaciers. Glencoe is also known for the infamous massacre that took place in 1692, where 38 members of the MacDonald clan were killed by government troops.
Glencoe is easily accessible by car from Glasgow or Edinburgh, taking around 2-3 hours to drive. There are also bus tours available from major cities in Scotland. Additionally, there are nearby train stations such as Fort William, where visitors can take a bus or taxi to reach Glencoe.
Entry to Glencoe itself is free, however there may be charges for parking or visiting specific attractions within the glen. The Glencoe Visitor Centre usually has information on any additional charges and opening hours.
