Musee Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech is a museum in Marrakesh, dedicated to the legendary fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent. Besides showcasing some of his most iconic creations, the museum explores his deep connections with Morocco and how the country inspired his work.

History

The Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakech opened its doors in 2017. Designed by Studio KO, the building’s exterior mimics textile textures, while the interior resembles couture linings. It pays tribute to YSL’s affection for Marrakech, a city that inspired him with its vibrant colors, textiles, and culture. His former residence, the nearby Majorelle Garden, is still a significant part of his legacy.

How to Get There

Situated in the heart of Marrakech, the museum is close to the Majorelle Garden. Visitors can reach it by taxi, bus, or a 30-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa. Shared taxis, known as “”grand taxis,”” or app-based rides like Careem, are also convenient options.

Highlights

  1. Main Exhibition Hall: Features over 50 garments, sketches, and accessories, highlighting YSL’s creative use of color and texture. Note that photography is not allowed here.
  2. Auditorium Film: Offers a documentary about YSL’s life and his connection to Morocco.
  3. Studio KO Architecture: Appreciate the building’s fabric-inspired exterior and its plush interior.
  4. Le Studio Café: Enjoy a break in the courtyard café with views of the museum.
