The Public Palace, also known as Palazzo Pubblico, is the heart of political life in San Marino. This building houses the key government institutions and is the symbol of the civil and institutional history of the glorious republic.
History
Built at the end of the 19th century on the ruins of the ancient Domus Communis Magna, the palace borrows features of medieval communal buildings. Over the years, it has seen multiple restorations and maintains its historical elegance while accommodating the modern activities of San Marino’s governmental bodies.
How to Get There
The Public Palace is located in Piazza della Libertà, in the city center of San Marino. Regular bus services run from nearby cities such as Rimini to San Marino City. Once you reach the city, the palace is within walking distance of the bus station.

Entry to the Public Palace is free, and tourists are welcome while the council isn’t in session. The changing of the guard ceremony outside is also open for public viewing without charge.
