Towers of Pavia (Torri di Pavia)
Torri di Pavia, Piazza Leonardo Da Vinci, 16, 27100 Pavia PV, ItalyThe skyline of Pavia, Italy, is punctuated by red-brick towers offering a spectacular view of this ancient Lombard town. Known as Le Torri Medievali di Pavia (The Medieval Towers of Pavia), these architectural marvels hold centuries of history, dauntingly reaching for the sky. More than simply structures, they provide a unique perspective on the region’s rich past.
History
The towers were constructed between the 11th and 12th centuries by the city’s noble families, as symbols of their status and power. The tower-building race resulted in around 100 towers gracing the city. Today, six towers remain intact, casting long shadows over Pavia, acting as silent, weathered witnesses to a bygone era.
