Hidden in the folds of the Swiss Alps, the Triftbrücke, once a secret only known to the locals, now lures adventure seekers from around the world. Providing not just an awe-inspiring view but a fair share of adrenaline rush too, this is one experience that shouldn’t be missed.
Triftbrücke was originally built in 2004 as an access way to the Trift Hut of the Swiss Alpine Club, which became out of reach due to the retreat of the Trift Glacier. The first bridge was a much simpler design and with an increase in popularity among tourists, a much sturdier version replaced it in 2009.
Reaching Trift bridge involves an enjoyable trip from Berne, the Swiss capital, through the town of Meiringen, known for its association with Sherlock Holmes. From Meiringen, a bus ride to Nessental, Triftbahn followed by a cable car journey and then a two-hour uphill hike, will lead to the bridge. Beware, it’s not for the faint-hearted.
The tickets for the cable car to Trift Bridge can be purchased both online and on-site. The round trip ticket for adults is about 20 Swiss Francs, for students and seniors, it is discounted to about 18 Swiss Francs and is free for children below the age of 6.
