The 9/11 Memorial is a tribute to the nearly 3,000 people killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Located at the site of the former World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan, New York City, the memorial consists of two reflecting pools set within the footprints of the original Twin Towers. The pools are each nearly an acre in size and feature the largest man-made waterfalls in North America. Surrounding the pools are bronze panels inscribed with the names of the victims. The memorial plaza also includes the “Survivor Tree,” a Callery pear tree that survived the attacks and serves as a symbol of resilience and rebirth. The 9/11 Memorial Museum, located underground adjacent to the memorial, offers exhibitions and educational programs that commemorate the events of 9/11 and explore their impact on the world. The memorial serves as a place of remembrance, reflection, and honor for those who lost their lives on that tragic day.
