Getting There

Walter Peak High Country Farm is nestled on the western shores of Lake Wakatipu, and the best way to reach this stunning spot is by hopping on the TSS Earnslaw steamship. This historic vessel departs from Queenstown’s Steamer Wharf and takes about 45 minutes to cruise across the lake. Trust me, the views of the surrounding mountains and the shimmering lake are absolutely breathtaking!

Dining Experience

When it comes to dining at Walter Peak, guests are treated to a gourmet BBQ buffet that’s hard to beat. The menu features mouthwatering meats, fresh local veggies, and a variety of salads. While seafood isn’t on the lunch menu, there are plenty of vegetarian options and scrumptious desserts to satisfy any sweet tooth. The Colonel’s Homestead Restaurant exudes colonial charm, surrounded by beautiful lakeside gardens and offering panoramic views that make every bite even more enjoyable.

Activities

After indulging in a delicious meal, visitors can catch an entertaining farm show. Here, skilled farming experts demonstrate traditional high country techniques, including sheep shearing and herding with a clever border collie. Plus, there’s plenty of time to wander through the gorgeous gardens and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.

Tips and Essentials

– Pricing for the dining experience ranges from $149 to $239 for adults, while kids under 15 can enjoy it for $75 to $119. Infants can join in for free!
– It’s a good idea to book through the RealNZ Visitor Centre, and if plans change, just remember that cancellations require a 24-hour notice for a refund.
– Keep in mind that the TSS Earnslaw runs daily, except during its annual maintenance from May 19 to September 8, 2025. During that time, alternative vessels might be used.

Accommodations and Travel

Queenstown has a fantastic range of places to stay, from budget-friendly options to luxurious resorts. For convenience, it’s best to find a spot near the city center, so you’re close to the Steamer Wharf. If you’re traveling to Queenstown, you can easily get there by air or road. It’s about a 2.5-hour drive from Te Anau and just over an hour from Wanaka.
