Barceloneta Beach is a must-visit spot in Barcelona, nestled in the historic fishing district of Barceloneta. With over 1100 meters of sandy shoreline, it’s perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and trying out water sports. The beach even has a literary connection, as it’s thought to be featured in a scene from Don Quixote.
Barceloneta started as a simple fishing village and saw a major transformation after the 1992 Olympic Games, becoming a bustling tourist hub. Originally built in the 18th century for residents displaced from the Ribera neighborhood, it now boasts unique architecture, seafood eateries, and cultural sites.
To reach Barceloneta Beach, you can hop on the metro (yellow line) to the Barceloneta stop or come from Port Olímpic. It’s also a short 15-minute walk from the Old Town, starting at the Christopher Columbus monument.
Visiting the beach is free, but attractions like the aquarium may have entry fees. For instance, the Barcelona Aquarium usually costs around €20 per person.
