Iguazu Falls is a stunning natural wonder located on the border of Brazil and Argentina. The falls are made up of 275 individual waterfalls that stretch over 1.7 miles, making it one of the largest waterfall systems in the world. The area surrounding the falls has been inhabited by indigenous tribes for thousands of years, with the first European sighting in the 16th century by Spanish conquistadors.

How to Get There

The falls are easily accessible from both the Brazilian and Argentinian sides. Visitors can fly into Foz do Iguazu International Airport in Brazil or Cataratas del Iguazu International Airport in Argentina. From there, it is a short drive to the entrance of the national parks that surround the falls.

  • Devil’s Throat: The most famous and impressive of the waterfalls, Devil’s Throat is a U-shaped waterfall that is over 80 meters high.
  • See both sides the Argentina side is best for getting up close to the falls and on top of the falls where as the Brazil side you have a more panoramic view.
  • Macuco Safari: Visitors can take a boat ride to get up close and personal with the falls, experiencing the power of the water firsthand.
  • Parque das Aves Bird Park: This sanctuary is nearby to the water falls in Foz do Iguacu and is the home to over 1,000 birds from 150 different species, making it a must-visit for nature lovers.

List of Tips for Visiting

  • Wear comfortable shoes and clothing, as you will be doing a lot of walking and may get wet from the mist of the falls.
  • Do the boat ride. It is the best experience for the water falls. There are two options the wet and the dry version. If you are ok with getting a little wet then the wet version is so much fun!
  • Bring a poncho or rain jacket to protect yourself from the water, especially if you plan on taking a boat ride.
  • Visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the crowds and get the best views of the falls.
