Jnan Sbil Gardens were established in the 19th century by Sultan Moulay Hassan I, who also constructed the walls linking Fes el-Jdid with Fes el-Bali. Initially reserved for the royal elite, the gardens were connected to the Royal Palace via an underground passage. They became accessible to the public in 1917. After a period of neglect, they underwent major renovations from 2006 to 2010, led by King Mohammed VI, and reopened in 2011.
