The Museo Nacional de Historia Natural del Paraguay (National Museum of Natural History of Paraguay) is one of the finest preservers of the natural heritage of Paraguay. Located in San Lorenzo, the museum encompasses a wide spectrum of disciplines such as Zoology, Botany, Archaeology, Ethnography, Paleontology, and Geology.
History
Founded in 1990, the museum came into existence with the goal of promoting knowledge and appreciation of Paraguayan biodiversity, culture, and history amongst Paraguayans and foreign visitors. Over the years, the museum has evolved to become a crucial research center.
How to Get There
The museum is located in San Lorenzo, just about 10 kilometers from the center of Asunción. Buses from Asunción to San Lorenzo are frequent and the journey takes around 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can get there by taxi. The exact address is Instituto de Investigación Biológica del Paraguay, Prof. Clementino Ocampos 1303, San Lorenzo, Paraguay.

Ticket Information
Opening hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The admission fee is 10,000 Guaraníes (around 2 USD) for adults and 5,000 Guaraníes for students with ID. Children under 6 and seniors enter for free.
Tips for Visiting
- Since most placards are in Spanish, it’s handy to carry a translation app or dictionary if you aren’t fluent in the language.
- Bring along your camera to capture the vast variety of exhibits, but remember flash photography can harm some delicate specimens, thus be cautious.
- Local students and scholars often volunteer at the museum, making for an enriching discussion and deeper understanding of the exhibits.
